Cenone di Capodanno

In Italy we celebrate New Year’s Eve, known as the Vigilia, Capodanno, or Festa di San Silvestro, with a cenone (big feast). This meal often features several courses and lasts for many hours. The foods served are symbolic of wishes for the coming year and are accompanied by plenty of festive drinks like Prosecco or spumante.

Lentils, featured in our Cenone dinner menu, star in many New Year’s dinners. With their coin-like shape, they were traditionally believed to bring prosperity in the new year. The lentils are often cooked with onions, garlic, herbs, tomatoes, and olive oil and is the first of many food courses through the night.

The food and wine flows until midnight when we all celebrate with a cin-cin (cheers) to the New Year . Don’t forget to kiss your loved one and to wear red underwear … if you want your love life to be prosperous in the year to come!
